MONTHS of work to improve Penketh’s sewer network have been scheduled by water giant United Utilities.

Tannery Lane, from Newlyn Gardens to Harlyn Gardens, was closed today for six weeks while a new sewer and manholes are installed.

Walkers Lane and Station Road will also be closed for 10 weeks with a diversion put in place on October 25 for similar work to be completed.

Tony Lowles, project co-ordinator, said: "The work on Tannery Lane and Walkers Lane is designed to improve the overall reliability of the sewer network and help towards alleviating the risk of flooding to nearby homes during heavy rainfall.

"We will continue to allow access in and out of Walkers Lane through the newly formed access for local traffic and our construction vehicles, but this access will revert to a no through road once our work is completed.”

"We will do everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum.”
