A DENTIST has been jailed for 15 months after being convicted of a sexual assault on a woman.

Roger Klein, of Lady Acre Close, Lymm, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Friday.

The married 42-year-old, was found guilty by a jury on July 23 following an incident in Lymm on April 13, 2009.

Manchester Crown Court heard that Klein, who ran the Regent Cosmetic Dental Practice in Knutsford, pinned a 37-year-old woman down on her bed and rubbed himself against her after misinterpretating signals of a ‘flirtatious nature’.

The court heard how the incident happened when he asked the woman for help delivering leaflets and went to pick her up at her home.

When he arrived, the woman let him in but and she went back upstairs, telling him she needed to grab her shoes and tie her hair back.

She was followed by Klein who walked into the bedroom, where he approached her and put his hand in between her legs after pushing her onto the bed.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said Klein had forced himself on her, despite her persistent attempts to get him off.

Defending Klein, Ayla Lewis, said her client denied the allegations and the woman had concocted a vicious lie. She also said that a week before the incident the woman had flirted with Klein.

During a night out in Manchester the woman called Klein and had been flirtatious on a number of occasions but he confused these calls as a sign that she wanted to sleep with him.

Sentencing, Judge Martin Rudland said the phone calls were flirtatious but nothing more than that.

“There is no doubt that in your profession you are hard working and well respected and a family man who cares for his son and step daughter,” he said.

“However, those calls brief though they were seemed to kindle in you the prospect of sexual adventure. That was what preoccupied you when you approached her home that morning.”

He added that Klein is likely to serve six months of his 15 month sentence.
