THE 25th anniversary of Howley Carnival was a resounding success as residents descended on Howley Park to celebrate the occasion.
Warrington Brass Band led a procession to the Farrell Street park on Saturday afternoon, where Scout troops, resident associations and charities held a variety of stalls.
Entertainment was provided by dance troupe the Harlequins, while the new rose queen and princesses were formally crowned.
Dave Eatock, community development officer, said: "It was very successful and certainly helped by the extremely good weather.
"There was a diverse range of stalls and arts with a good showing by local people who turned out to support the carnival and celebrate the 25th anniversary.
"It is thanks to the organisers Sandra Kirk, Margaret Dolan and Nell Flanagan and all the volunteers who contribute, they're the people who make it work."
Carnival organiser, Sandra Kirk, said: "I was proud to be involved, we have a lovely close community spirit here.
"The carnival was first started by Margaret Dolan, Ellen Flanagan and Jean Taylor in 1980 and they opened it this year.
"It was a special year and so we chose special people who are close to the communtiy's heart."
Entertainment included Indepen-dance dancers, Harlequin Morris dancers, Warrington Gym display, Chris from band Richboy and Kevin the Clown.
