STUDENTS took a step back in time to recreate one of the most famous battles in history.
Pupils at Birchwood High School donned battle kit to re-enact the battle of Hastings.
The school organised the day to give students a deeper understanding of the historic event.
It is hoped that the physical activity will give students the opportunity to empathise with the soldiers and show them how the different stages in the battle led to the Normans' victory.
Students were divided into group with three classes making up the Normans and four classes making up the Saxons.
To help prepare for the battle, the students were given an instruction sheet explaining how to make their weapons and costume two weeks prior to the battle. Workshops were set up in school at dinner times to help students create their costume.
John Burnham, project leader of history, said: "It has been very enjoyable and an experience that they will not forget.
"It is important to use a wide range of teaching strategies so that every student gets the chance to learn in their preferred style."
