FORMER law offices in the town centre are being eyed up for conversion to residential use.

Plans have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council’s planning department for vacant offices last occupied by FDR Law.

Proposals are for a change of use of numbers 17, 19 and 21 Palmyra Square South – next to Parr Hall – to create two houses of multiple occupation, or HMOs.

Numbers 17 and 19 would form one property, with a total of 15 bedrooms, while number 21 would form a separate HMO consisting of 12 bedrooms.

In addition, it is proposed to change the use of an adjacent garage to form an office suite, according to plans by applicant Cheshire Mouldings Property Ltd.

Currently vacant, the grade II-listed buildings were constructed circa the late 19th century.

Externally, there would be little change to the fabric of the building or layout of the outside space, documents state.

They add: “The proposed scheme will bring the buildings back into viable, long-term use for their original purpose, bringing benefits of attracting a residential population into the town centre.

“It is acknowledged that there will be some less-than-substantial harm to the internal plan form, and this has been kept to a minimum level in order to facilitate the proposal.

“Most areas of the building will still be relatively interpretable and the majority of the works being reversible, and of a legible nature, retaining evidential value.

“The proposal is for high quality, shared, single-occupancy accommodation within the town centre.”

Plans are currently with the council and will be decided upon in due course.
