Morley wants cup win on birthday
Adrian Morley
Adrian Morley

WOLVES skipper Adrian Morley hopes to have an extra reason to celebrate his 31st birthday on Saturday.

Wolves face St Helens in the Challenge Cup on the same day and Morley is determined to make it a better experience than last year's cup trip to Knowsley Road.

Paul Cullen's men lost 25-14 to exit the competition in the quarter finals and Morley did not have a good day on a personal front either, clashing heads with Nick Fozzard after just five seconds.

"In the first tackle of the game, I made an ill-timed challenge on Fozzard and I came off second best," he said.

"I was seeing stars there for a while. I eventually went back on in the second half but it was too late. The scoreline was flattering Saints and it was a disappointing game all round."

But Morley has reined in his renowned aggression since taking over the captaincy and will hope to inspire the team this weekend with the ultimate target being a third Challenge Cup Final of his career - having won one and lost one at Leeds.

He said: "I've not been put on report or anything like that this season. I've been very pleased with the way it's gone.

"As captain I'll be saying a few words before the game on Saturday. I normally say a few things before kick-off and just because it's the biggest game of the season I won't be changing too much. It will just be 'let's not lose'!

"I've been lucky enough to play in two finals with Leeds so I'd love to get there with Warrington. We've got a long way to go but I think it's an achievable goal.

"There are no second bites of the cherry, though. We need to get all our fit bodies on the pitch and all have really massive games to have a chance of winning."
