ALTRINCHAM Kersal had plenty to celebrate at the weekend after their under-17 and under-19 Colts sides were both crowned Cheshire Cup champions.
While it has been a disappointing season for the first team, who suffered relegation from the North One division, the club's youngsters proved the future is still bright.
Both finals were held at Sandbach Rugby Club on Sunday and first to take the field were the under-17s, who met Wirral.
It was a dour game where defences dominated but what was probably the best individual try of the afternoon was credited to Kersal's James Conville.
He took a quick-tap penalty in his own 22 and scorched through the Wirral defence to score an unconverted try.
Wirral did come back, however, to take the lead with two penalties but Ryan Seaton popped over a penalty of his own to gain a narrow 8-6 victory and take the Cup to Stelfox Avenue.
That win was followed by an outstanding performance from Kersal's Senior Colts, the under-19s.
They met league leaders Winnington Park and produced some wonderful flowing rugby to claim a massive 56-5 victory.
Eight tries were scored, all converted by captain James Nettleton. He also crossed for a try, bringing his personal contribution to 21 points.
Josh Dyson got two tries and Alex Shahin, Rob Holloway, Harry Luscombe and Chris Yu also got their names on the scoresheet with a try apiece.
