STOBART SUPER LEAGUE GRAND FINAL

LEEDS RHINOS v WARRINGTON WOLVES

(Saturday 6 October, 6.00pm, Sky Sports 1)

(at Old Trafford, Manchester)

For the first time in the same season, the Super League Grand Final will be contested by the same clubs as the Challenge Cup Final, as LEEDS RHINOS and WARRINGTON WOLVES go head-to-head.

Wolves, appearing in their first Grand Final, meet a Rhinos side which will contest their eighth title decider of the Super League era.

Leeds have emerged victorious from Old Trafford on a record five occasions - in 2004 against Bradford, to go with four victories against St Helens in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011. Rhinos were also the losing side in 1998 (against Wigan) and 2005 (Bradford).

Leeds' extensive experience at the 'Theatre of Dreams' is highlighted by the fact their 2012 squad has a total of 58 combined Grand Final appearances, compared to Warrington's total of four.

Warrington coach TONY SMITH will become the first man to take charge of two different clubs in Super League Grand Finals on Saturday. Smith was in charge of opponents Leeds in 2004 (Won, v Bradford), 2005 (Lost, v Bradford) and 2007 (Won, v St Helens).

As part of the Wolves side on Saturday, ADRIAN MORLEY would become the oldest player to take part in a Super League Grand Final. Morley, the only British player to win Grand Finals on both sides of the world (with Sydney Roosters in 2002 and Bradford in 2005), will be 35 years & 149 days old. The current record holder is Paul Anderson, who was 34 years & 355 days old when part of the victorious St Helens side that defeated Hull FC in 2006.

JAMIE PEACOCK is aiming to set a record for most Grand Final appearances (10) on Saturday, which would move him one ahead of Leon Pryce and Paul Wellens. Peacock already holds the record for most Grand Final wins (7). He won with Bradford in 2001, 2003 and 2005 plus Leeds in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011. He has also been a loser with the Bulls in 2002 and 2004.

KEVIN SINFIELD will extend his own record on Saturday when he captains the Rhinos in a Super League Grand Final for the seventh time (2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012). Sinfield, who will make his 78th consecutive Leeds appearance, has also scored more Grand Final goals (24, including 1 field goal) and points (47) than any other player. The Rhinos' skipper has scored points in 17 consecutive games against Warrington, a streak which started on 1 September, 2006 when the Rhinos defeated the Wolves 54-16 at Headingley.

One try will see DANNY McGUIRE become the player with most tries in Super League Grand Finals. McGuire has four Old Trafford touchdowns to his name (1 in 2004, 1 in 2005 & 2 in 2008), a record he shares with ex-teammate Lee Smith and former Bradford fullback Michael Withers.

RYAN HALL has two Grand Final tries (1 in 2008 & 1 in 2011), so an Old Trafford treble would also put him in contention for leading tryscorer.

ROB BURROW is the only player to kick more than one field goal in a Grand Final, having landed one-pointers in 2007 and 2009.

Rhinos head coach BRIAN McDERMOTT and his assistant JAMES LOWES also have plenty of Grand Final experience - on and off the pitch. As well as coaching Leeds to Old Trafford glory in 2011, both tasted victory and defeat as players with Bradford. McDermott and Lowes were both part of the victorious Bulls side of 2001, as well as the defeated teams of 1999 and 2002. Lowes was also on the winning side in 2003 - his last season as a player. He grabbed the Bulls' final try in that game, setting the record for oldest player to score in a title decider.

OTHER TEAM LINKS

Warrington first-team coach WILLIE POCHING won the 2004 Grand Final as a player with Leeds. RYAN ATKINS and GARRETH CARVELL hail from Leeds, where CARVELL started his professional career alongside ADRIAN MORLEY. KALLUM WATKINS started out with Latchford Albion's junior set-up.

RECORD FINAL APPEARANCES

JAMIE PEACOCK, Leon Pryce and Paul Wellens currently share the record for most Grand Final appearances, having all played in the Super League title decider on nine occasions.

Peacock holds the record for most Grand Final wins, with seven. He won with Bradford in 2001, 2003 and 2005 plus Leeds in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Seven players share the unwanted record of five defeats in Grand Finals - Lee Gilmour, James Graham, Francis Meli, Leon Pryce, James Roby, Paul Wellens and Jon Wilkin.

Graham, Meli, Roby, Wellens and Wilkin all lost with St Helens in successive years from 2007 to 2011. Gilmour lost with Saints in 2007, 2008 and 2009, with Bradford in 2002 and with Wigan in 2000. Pryce lost with St Helens in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and with Bradford in 1999 and 2002.

Youngest finalist is Leon Pryce (Bradford Bulls) v St Helens, 1999 - 18 years (played in the game on his 18th birthday).

The youngest player to win a Grand Final is Tim Jonkers (19 years, 103 days), who was on the winning side for St Helens against Wigan in 2000.

The youngest player to score in a Grand Final is David Hodgson (19 years, 67 days), who touched down in defeat for Wigan against St Helens in 2000.

HARRY SUNDERLAND TROPHY

(Awarded to the man of the match in the Championship Final from 1965 to 1973; Club Merit Final 1974; Premiership Final 1975-1997; Super League Grand Final from 1998)

Four players have twice won the Harry Sunderland Trophy with the same club: Alan Tait (Widnes - 1989, 1990 Premiership Finals), Chris Joynt (St Helens - 1993 Premiership Final, 2000 Grand Final), Andrew Farrell (Wigan - 1996, 1997 Premiership Finals) and Rob Burrow (Leeds - 2007, 2011 Super League Grand Finals). Burrow, winning the award in 2011, became the first player to win the Trophy twice in the Grand Final.

Leeds Rhinos duo Rob Burrow (2007 v St Helens; 2011 v St Helens) and Kevin Sinfield (2009 v St Helens) are the only players in Saturday's Grand Final to have previously won the Harry Sunderland Trophy.

Sinfield is also one of just 11 players to have lifted both the Harry Sunderland Trophy and the Lance Todd Trophy (as man of the match in the Challenge Cup Final).

Three players from the losing side have won the Harry Sunderland Trophy (all against St Helens): Bill Ashurst (Wigan, 1971), Henry Paul (Bradford Bulls, 1999) and Paul Deacon (Bradford Bulls, 2002).

The youngest player to win the trophy is Wigan centre Kris Radlinski (19 years, 42 days) against Leeds in 1995.

Warrington duo BRETT HODGSON and TRENT WATERHOUSE are aiming to join the elite who have won Grand Finals in both England and Australia.

Hodgson was in the Wests Tigers side that defeated North Queensland Cowboys 30-16 in 2005, as well as being a loser with Parramatta Eels in 2001, 30-24 against Newcastle Knights. Waterhouse was part of the 2003 Penrith Panthers team that defeated Sydney Roosters 18-6.

Wolves utility players MICHAEL MONAGHAN (Manly Sea Eagles, 2007) and DAVID SOLOMONA (Sydney Roosters, 2000/Parramatta Eels, 2001) have also both previously lost NRL Grand Finals.

ADRIAN MORLEY is the only British player to play in a Grand Final winning side in both England and Australia.
