Chris Hill plans to play big role in Warrington Wolves ambitions for 2012

CHRIS Hill is not looking to play a ‘bit’ part in Wolves’ 2012 season.

Comparatively new to Super League, having joined the club from Champion-ship outfit Leigh Centurions, he is not in town to simply make the numbers up.

“I want to play in as many games as I can,” said the 24-year-old prop, who hails from Wigan and lives in Lowton.

And when asked what would be a successful season for him, he replied: “Playing in every game – cementing a place in the team and working on my game.”

Hill, a Northern Rail Cup winner with Leigh last year, added: “It is up to me to put myself in the picture.

“Tony (Smith) picks the team based on performance but as long as I’m training hard I hope to get in the team.

“I’ve discussed with Tony that I’d like to play every week and if that doesn’t happen I’ll just learn in training and get on with things.

“It has always been the case of having ambitions to play in Super League.

“I’m not here to play one game here or there and be a part of the squad.

“Obviously that’s what a squad is about – having rotation – and I do believe in that.

“But I think everyone wants to play every week or else there would be no point in playing rugby league.”

Aged 18, he made one Super League appearance with Leigh in their one year in the top flight in 2005.

Although he completed last season as a part-time player with Centurions, he was training with Wolves from the point of signing last summer.

That means the transition to the 2012 season at a higher level has been as comfortable as possible – ignoring, of course, the endurance training that he and his teammates were put through during their three-week training camp in Australia.

Hill may have mainly learnt his trade a division below, but he is familiar with the players and coaches around him and the expectations of him.

He does not feel like the new kid on the block, someone who needs to bide his time to get the nod for the 17 team spots.

“I had a bit of time with the club at the back end of the season which helped me to bed in and it’s been brilliant so far,” said Hill.
