Waterhouse has spent his time in Wolves' pre-season training camp getting to know his new teammates and where he fits in the team
Australian international back rower Trent Waterhouse had only arrived in the UK 11 days before returning to Sydney with the squad for three weeks of intensive Stobart Super League XVII preparations.
He flew out of town promising: “I am going to use my time at the camp to get to know everyone and bond, but also to find out some of the combinations for the season too.
“That is what this time in Australia is about, getting to know how I fit into the team and get some combinations going so I can hit the ground running.”
According to his boss Tony Smith, the former NRL Grand Final winner with Penrith Panthers achieved his first goal when making his Wolves debut in the 34-28 victory over South Sydney Rabbitohs at Redfern Oval on Saturday.
“He did well,” said Smith.
“Trent produced some nice offloads and he suits our style. I think he fitted in nicely with what we do and the way we play and I know he really enjoyed himself out there.”
Waterhouse (pictured left) slotted into the left second rower’s berth previously frequented by the departed Louis Anderson, but the 31-year-old ball-handling man mountain is not limited to that role.
“I have spoken with Tony a little about how we will line up during the year,” said Waterhouse, the NRL’s top offloader in 2011.
“Tony has said that Benny Westwood likes to play on the right-hand side so I reckon I’ll be on the left.
“But I’m happy to play wherever he wants me to. I’ve played all over the park and I’m here to fit in wherever I’m needed.”
