Adrian Morley wants to complete a clean sweep of personal goals by helping Wolves grab Grand Final glory
ADRIAN Morley is a Grand Final glory night away from fulfilling a fully satisfying clean sweep of club trophies on both sides of the world.
And Wolves’ inspirational leader believes that can happen this year in the final throes of his illustrious career.
The record books show the 34-year-old prop has already swept up, having won the Australian minor premiership and NRL Grand Final with Sydney Roosters, the Challenge Cup with Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves, the Super League Grand Final with Bradford Bulls and lastly the League Leaders’ Shield in 2011.
But, with the title success at Bradford crowning a six-match loan spell in 2006, he felt he ‘jumped on the bandwagon’ and ‘took some of the glory’ without laying the foundations.
So to go the whole hog with Wolves in his 19th season at the top is high motivation that can benefit the team.
“Don’t get me wrong, the Bradford club were great to me and I wouldn’t change anything but I didn’t really feel part of that team and it was a bit of a hollow victory for me personally,” said Moz, who is only three games away from a stunning milestone of 400 club appearances.
“I would love to take Warrington all the way this year. That would be the icing on the cake for me, to have worked and toiled with the boys all year and then to reach the Grand Final and take it down.
“It’s not an unachievable goal with the way we’ve been performing over the last couple of years. It’s within our sights. We’ve a lot of hard work to do but I think we can get there.”
Not that Morley, in his last contracted year, sees this as his guaranteed final chance but he is realistic.
He was not sure he would play again when a head injury led to him missing seven games last term but an operation to remove his eyeball and repair nerve damage allowed the warrior to continue the pursuit of his dreams, including becoming the highest capped English international player of all time last November and having a three-month Testimonial to look forward to from March in honour of his services to the game.
“I’m still feeling relevant to the team and as long as I feel that way I’ll continue to play,” he said.
“On the whole I’m pleased with the way my career’s gone so far.
“I’ve had a great deal of success, played in some fantastic teams and met loads of great guys.
“If it all finished tomorrow I would have no complaints but hopefully there’s a few twists and turns to come yet.”
