MATT King is convinced that Wolves won the Challenge Cup final in the opening 10 minutes of the game.
The gargantuan defensive effort needed to keep Leeds out in the opening periods was the ‘best recipe’ for victory according to the Australian centre, who set up wing partner and countryman Chris Hicks for his first try.
“That first 10 minutes was vital. You come out of that period and you grow a foot tall and your chest is puffed out and I really think that is where we won the game.
“Leeds threw exactly what they wanted to throw at us and when that didn’t work it seemed as though they didn’t have a plan B.
“You love to start the game with a couple of tries early on, but for me, to start the game defending your line for 10 minutes like that is the best recipe for victory.”
Wolves held Leeds up over the line and kept them inches short on several occasions in the first 10 minutes.
King was well aware that Leeds were targeting Lee Briers and the former Kangaroo Test star did his best to keep him protected.
“They wanted to get at Briersy and blow his tyres off.”
