IT was a very proud moment for David Solomona.

He had fellow Kiwis Vinnie and Louis Anderson either side of him, his first winner’s medal in an 11-year career, the Challenge Cup lifted high in the air and his family watching him.

Not only were his wife and three children there to witness the greatest moment in his career, his father and uncle had made their first ever trip to England to see the former Sydney City, Parrammatta Eels, Wakefield Trinity and Bradford Bulls forward realise his dream.

“I’m still freaking out about it,” said the New Zealander at Sunday’s homecoming.

“My dad and uncle coming over was the icing on the cake. They came to both my Grand Finals in Australia that were losses so they were third time lucky and they’re really happy.

“It was pretty special to have them, my wife and kids there.”

He admitted it had been difficult to comprehend the magnitude of what has been achieved.

“It honestly all feels surreal. I’m just trying to stay as calm as I can to soak it all up, not get too carried away and enjoy the moment.”
