LEEDS-born Wolves centre Ryan Atkins believes his heroic brace in the Challenge Cup final against Leeds Rhinos might have lost him some friends.
The 24-year-old, who moved to Wolves at the start of the season from Wakefield, is due to have an engagement party with fiancée Isabel in Leeds on Saturday but he thinks he may have fewer guests to worry about after helping Wolves to a resounding victory at Wembley.
He said: “I have an engagement party back in Leeds this week.
“There are supposed to be a few Leeds lads coming. I’m good friends with Lee Smith but I’m worried they might not come now.”
“But I would rather have a winner’s medal round my neck than have Lee Smith at my party — no matter how many years I’ve known him.”
It was clear how much the Wembley appearance meant to the England international who was cheered on by his Leeds-supporting family. They all wore Warrington shirts which he had bought for them.
“My mum was so proud,” he said.
“Seeing me score was special. My mum was crying when I ran out on to the pitch let alone when I went over.
