More memorable Warrington wins on Saints’ home turf.

October 4, 1980, Lancashire Cup Final, Wolves 26 Wigan 10:

Hooker Tony Waller ripped second division Wigan apart with his dummies, Tommy Martyn scored a remarkable 65-yard opening try straight from a re-start and Steve Hesford scored a Lancashire Cup Final record 17 points with seven goals and a try (three points in those days!)

January 28, 1978, John Player Final, Wolves 9 Widnes 4:

Alex Murphy’s Warrington side became the first to win this trophy twice. John Bevan scored the only try when he tapped on a dropped Steve Hesford kick on a churned up pitch following torrential rain. Most players were unrecognisable from being caked in mud.

October 29, 1965, Lancashire Cup Final, Rochdale 5 Wolves 16:

Centre Jackie Melling touched down twice as Warrington won the Lancashire Cup for the sixth time. Ray Fisher and Brian Glover also touched down, with Jeff Bootle kicking two goals.
