GOODBYE KNOWSLEY ROAD: Great Wolves wins - part one

Memorable Warrington wins on Saints’ home turf.

October 14, 1989, Lancashire Cup Final, Oldham 16 Wolves 24:

Mike Gregory lifted this particular cup for Warrington for the last time after Bob Jackson’s two tries helped to shake up Division One Oldham in what turned out to be a warm-up for that season’s Challenge Cup semi finals.

September 14, 1983, Lancashire Cup second round, Saints 26 Wolves 30:

Wolves had three players sent off and two sin-binned by referee Stan Wall - against two red cards for Saints - but Mick Blacker’s two tries steered Warrington through. Mark Forster, Mal Yates and Phil Ford were dismissed, Bob Eccles and Mike Gregory spent time cooling off as Wolves spent 20 minutes with nine men against 11.

September 2, 1979, league game, Saints 17 Wolves 23:

Ken Kelly was sent off, while Steve Hogan and Mike Peers went off injured but John Bevan scored four tries - three after switching to the pack - to seal an unexpected win on the opening day of the new league season.
