SOMETHING peculiar happened at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday.
Wolves winger Chris Hicks failed to score in Warrington Wolves’ win against Bradford Bulls.
Amazingly, it is the first time the Australian has not registered a score in a home match since joining the club from Manly at the end of 2007.
He touched down or converted, or both, in the previous 24 matches in which he played on Halliwell Jones turf since making his debut against Hull in 2008.
Hicks, who will hope to celebrate tomorrow’s 33rd birthday with a win at St Helens, has notched a total of 20 tries and 64 goals on home soil, with his most recent four-pointer coming in the win against Crusaders almost a fortnight ago.
However, scoring achievements are not new to Hicks, who crossed for the last try in Wolves’ Challenge Cup semi final success over Wigan last year and was on the scoresheet in the final itself against Huddersfield Giants at Wembley.
In 2008, Hicks became the first Warrington player - and only the 30th in the history of the English game - to score points in each match of a season.
Hicks’ home scoring record: 2008: Hull (1t), Catalans (2t), Wigan (1t), Huddersfield (2t), Harlequins (1g), St Helens (3g), Castleford (1t, 4g), Hull KR (5g), Wakefield (8g), Bradford (1t, 6g), Leeds (2t, 1g), Hull KR (1t, 5g), Huddersfield (2g).
2009: Catalans (1t, 4g), Leeds (1t, 1g), Hull KR (2g), Crusaders (1t, 3g), York (8g), Castleford (1g), Huddersfield (3t, 6g), Bradford (1t), Hull (4g), Salford (1t).
2010: Crusaders (1t).
