WOLVES boss Tony Smith has admitted that he will be complaining to the RFL after centre Ryan Atkins was woken at 6.30am this morning for a random drug test.
The former England coach was dismayed that Atkins was disrupted during his pre-match preparations and though he refused to comment directly, he did confirm that he would be discussing the matter with the ‘appropriate people’.
He said: “I’ll take it up at another stage as I’m not going to rant and rave now.
”I’ll take it up with the appropriate people but we’ve come through ok and I’ll do my ranting and raving somewhere else.
“It’s not for now, I thought Ryan had a strong game and maybe we should get them to wake him up at 6.30am every match day.”
Atkins did not seem affected in the slightest, scoring two tries and putting in a man-of-the-match performance on the left with Matt King.
Smith agreed that fans are now getting to see the real attacking power the two have when playing together.
He said: “They are a danger.
“They alternate and work well with each other and Matt had another strong game.”
But the Wolves coach wanted to single out skipper Adrian Morley for high praise after the prop played the entire 80 minutes this evening.
“Adrian Morley was unbelievable,” said Smith.
“Not many props can do 80 minutes but he earned it.
“I didn’t do him any favours tonight and he earned the right to stay on the field, how he was overlooked for man-of-the-match I have no idea.”
In a rampant second half, Wolves dominated play and scored 27 unanswered points but Smith conceded that the first half did not match the intensity seen in the second period.
He said: “It was an ugly first half again.
“We’re making a habit of it but fortunately we’re making a habit of getting things in order in the second half.
“Pretty sure that is the third time that we’ve nilled a team in the second half on the bounce.
“Whoever started to build some pressure up in the second half was going to come out on top and fortunately that was us tonight.”
