Warrington Wolves Under 20s head coach Richard Marshall praises Squadbuilder for their part in Wigan win

WARRINGTON Wolves Under 20s head coach Richard Marshall is very proud of his players after Saturday’s win at Wigan.

Wolves trailed 22-8 and 32-8 at stages before sealing a 38-32 success late on.

Super League squad men Kevin Penny, Matty Blythe, Mike Cooper, Alex Thompson, Adam Neal, Lee Mitchell and Tyrone McCarthy all played their part, while winger Rhys Williams crossed for a hat-trick of tries.

“Overall I am very very pleased with the performance,” said Marshall.

“We were put under immense pressure in the first half with Wigan being totally dominant especially around the ruck area where they were getting three and four players in every tackle.

“We had a good chat about that at half time and I told them to be more aggressive and for us to get three and four men in each tackle and they did just that.

“We made plenty of changes in the second half with a lot of the senior guys having spells on the bench but the young guys stood up to the task and we were rewarded with a tremendous win.

“The support play for the last two tries was exceptional and shows the ability we have in the squad.

“Tyrone McCarthy and Alex Thompson contributed very well indeed and Rhys Williams getting a hat-trick was a real bonus.

“It was very encouraging and gives us a great platform as we get ready for our opening league fixture at Huddersfield in just over a fortnight. They probably have the most experienced side in the competition this season.”

Marshall felt Wolves benefited from a two-day camp the previous weekend.

“The whole squad went away for two days to an outward bound centre in Chorley which was paid for by Squadbuilder,” said Marshall.

“This proved to be a massive success and helped to build a great team spirit and I have no doubt that it gave us that extra togetherness that enabled us to keep going right to the end and get the win.

“So on behalf of everybody connected with the squad I would like to thank Squadbuilder for their generosity.”
