Tough at first but Tony Smith and Jimmy Lowes are working well together

TONY Smith and Jimmy Lowes are working well together, says Paul Johnson.

Wolves’ back rower or centre has a friendship with Lowes going back to their Bradford Bulls days.

And Johnson saw it was tough for Lowes when he was moved from head coach to first-team coach to allow for the arrival of new boss Smith in March.

Although Johnson has experience of playing for Great Britain he did not figure under Smith’s time in charge of the national team because of injury but he has been pleased with what the former Leeds chief has brought to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Johnson said: “Tony’s brought a lot of good things to the club and it is good for Warrington.

“Jimmy’s my friend and it’s always tough but it’s a business.

“That’s what happens, it happens to every player in his time and it happens to coaches as well.

“They get on well, help each other out and both have good ideas which can only be good for us.”

Johnson does not read much into the fact that today sees Wolves playing at The Brewery Field for the first time as they make their first ever visit to Celtic Crusaders.

“It’s just a piece a grass, it’s another game.

“It’s all about your own performance and the team’s performance.

“It’s a danger game for us. They’re sat at the bottom but they are a decent team, a tough and big team.

“They’ve beaten Wigan and Bradford so it’s a game that we’ve got to be really switched on for.

“It’s about us. We’ve got to keep on improving so it’s another week to show we have improved from last week.”
