GUDJOHN Thordarson insists more signings are right around the corner.
The Alex boss remains confident of adding further fresh faces after completing a double raid on Blue Square Premier outfit Histon.
Former skipper Mat Mitchel-King has an instant reunion with Patrick Ada after agreeing a two-year deal on Monday.
But that’s only two arrivals so far in a slow summer for Crewe in the transfer market.
Thordarson still has plenty of work to do after a mass exodus of players during the close season.
Reiterating financial constraints, he believes it will be all change now we are into July.
“I have been busy over the summer trying to find the quality to improve us,” explained Thordarson.
“Some of those players have gone beyond us because of their personal terms and all you can do in that situation is walk away.
“I would like to bring in more because I would like to strengthen.
“We have to sign players on a Bosman but there are other options available.
“I have one or two things up my sleeve and now we are in July I am sure things will happen. Players will come back to the reality of having no wages in the bank.
“There will be some who won’t have offers there when they thought they would and that will move things on.”
Thordarson delved into the loan market considerably towards the back end of their League One fallout and is likely to repeat.
“I have spoken to a lot of managers about possible loan deals,” he added.
“That is something we will look into once their clubs decide who they are going to allow out on loan.”
Both John Brayford and Michael O’Connor returned to pre-season training this week despite speculation suggesting yet more exits.
While right-back Brayford has been tipped to join ex-boss Nigel Clough at Derby, the controversial Northern Ireland midfielder is linked to an unnamed Championship club.
Thordarson says he hasn’t received any approaches for either of them.
“You never know what might happen and all you can do is take what is in front of you,” he continued.
“As far as I am concerned both John and Michael are our players.
“They are in for training and I have received no offers for them.
“Derby have a long-term interest in John because Nigel Clough knows of him from Burton.
“But that doesn’t mean we have had a bid.
“Both are professional players and they know the most important thing to do is play football and act properly.
“There is no point dealing with speculation because nothing has happened.
“At the moment they are in our thoughts but it can change with one phone call.”
Crewe kick off their pre-season campaign early with a quick trip to non-league outfit Newcastle Town this Sunday, KO 2.30pm.
Admission is £5.50 for adults and £3 concessions.
The Alex follow up with a home clash against Premiership side Wigan on Thursday, July 16.
