Warrington's World Cup heroes - Dave Chisnall

This Is Cheshire: Dave Chisnall Dave Chisnall

PRIOR to Adrian Morley entering the field as an England substitute against Papua New Guinea on Saturday, Dave Chisnall was the last Warrington player to appear at prop in the national team in a World Cup game.

Chissie took to the field three times in the 1975 tournament as Great Britain lost their crown to Australia.

He figured in a win against France at Headingley a few weeks before the disappointment of being captain of the Warrington side that lost to Widnes in the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.

He returned to World Cup action a month later with a loss against Wales in Brisbane and a draw with New Zealand in Auckland, starting alongside a different prop and hooker for all three WorldCup games.

Chisnall made 194 appearances for Warrington in two spells.

He was initially brought in by Alex Murphy from Leigh in 1971, helping the club to win the League Leaders' Rose Bowl in 1972/73, and then the Captain Morgan Trophy, the Player's No6 Trophy, the Challenge Cup and the Club Championship in 1973/74.

Chisnall was sold to Swinton in late 1975 but after spells with Leigh, St Helens and Barrow he returned to Wilderspool for three more seasons in 1981.
