JORDAN Cox will be plying his trade at Sheffield Eagles this year.

Eagles have confirmed the signing of the 24-year-old prop forward, who was released by Warrington Wolves at the end of 2016, this morning.

He is the first new face announced by Sheffield boss Mark Aston after a period of insecurity surrounding the South Yorkshire club, who will share Wakefield Trinity Wildcats' stadium for 12 months.

Characterful Cox made 18 appearances off the bench for Wolves after becoming a late catch for 2016 from Hull Kingston Rovers.

Eagles expect him to be a force to be reckoned with among their part-time squad.

“This lad has bags of ability and, at 24, still has the potential to improve,” said director of rugby and acting chief executive Aston.

“His talent isn’t in question, that’s why coaches were prepared to take him in Super League. He can play, of that there is no doubt.

“He is a character, he has shown a real desire to play by coming here, and we are all looking forward to seeing him pull on the red and gold jersey.”

During his time at Craven Park Cox enjoyed a host of loan spells at the with Newcastle, Huddersfield and Halifax.

“He has showed glimpses of his immense talent at times over the last couple of years,” Aston added.

“He is a big lad but he can move. That combination of size and speed can be a real threat.

"We just need to make sure we get the best we possibly can out of Jordan and that means getting him fit again and keeping him out on the pitch for longer periods."

Cox currently has a knee injury but Aston concluded: “He is ahead of schedule and we are confident of having him available for the start of the campaign.”

He will be remembered in Wire colours for an all-effort performer who provided impact off the bench.

Few will forget his 80-metre gallop after bursting through the Wakefield defence at Belle Vue.

His last game for The Wire came in the win at Catalans Dragons a week after the Challenge Cup Final defeat to Hull at Wembley.

He missed two months following his appearance in the 16-16 draw at Hull KR where he was decked during a flurry of punches from Robins prop James Green, which left Cox with concussion.
