WOLVES fans may not have seen the last of prop Mitchell Dodds despite the club confirming him as one of three more players to leave the club.

The Australian, along with fellow front rowers Ryan Bailey and Jordan Cox, will leave The Halliwell Jones Stadium after the club decided against renewing his contract.

The former Brisbane Broncos prop made only two appearances for The Wire before suffering a double leg break in the 30-20 win at Catalans on March 12.

Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith says the decision to let the 27-year-old go was a particularly tough one to make but says the door remains open for him to return in the future.

“It’s unfortunate for Mitchell not to have got on the park as much as he’d have liked. I’m gutted for him in particular,” he said.

“His contributions off the field were top class. He has been a superb professional.

“We may see him in the future. The door is still open for him to come back if he can get himself set up and get back to playing regular rugby league again.”

Bailey made 15 appearances in primrose and blue, the last of which came in Saturday’s Grand Final defeat to Wigan at Old Trafford. He also appeared in the Challenge Cup Final defeat to Hull FC at Wembley on August 27.

Cox impressed many fans with his impact from the bench during his 18 appearances, but he suffered several concussions and appeared just once after being punched twice by Hull KR’s James Green during the 16-16 draw with his former side on July 1.

“All three players have made great contributions to our side over the last year or so,” Smith said.

“They all played their part in helping us achieve the League Leaders’ Shield and making it to two finals.

“These conversations are never easy to have but I thank them for their efforts over the season and I wish them well for the future.”

Wolves had already confirmed the departures of James Laithwaite and Gary Wheeler, who will both join League One side Toronto Wolfpack, and prop Ben Evans, who is moving south to join Championship outfit London Broncos.

Kevin Penny, Declan Patton, Jack Johnson, Morgan Smith and Benjamin Jullien were believed to be coming to the end of their contracts, but Smith confirmed all five would be with The Wire next season.

Two signings have already been confirmed for the 2017 season, with England international prop Mike Cooper and utility player Matty Blythe both returning to the club from St George Illawarra Dragons and Bradford Bulls respectively.

Meanwhile, speculation has been growing since Saturday’s Old Trafford showpiece about a deal to bring Wigan prop Dom Crosby – soon to be best man at Jack Hughes’ wedding – to The Halliwell Jones Stadium, with Wire hooker Brad Dwyer moving in the opposite direction.

Both players are under contract with their clubs until the end of next season.
