TECHNICAL sales manager David Taylor is running the London Marathon in memory of three of his wife's family.
Mr Taylor's mother-in-law and his wife's brothers died from the heart muscle disease cardiomyopathy.
He will be taking part in the 26-miler to raise money for the Cardiomyopathy Association.
The charity offers advice and support to families affected by the inherited condition, which kills four young people every week in the UK.
Mr Taylor's wife Moira lost her brothers at the age of 15 and 33 to the condition, and her mother suffered from the condition for many years before she died.
Mr Tatlor, aged 58, lives in Kirkstone Court, Congleton, and started jogging 20 years ago after starting a more sedentary job and putting on a stone in weight.
He took up running more seriously 10 years ago when he moved to Congleton, and joined Congleton Harriers.
The London Marathon takes place next Sunday, April 13, and Mr Taylor is hoping to finish in four hours 10 minutes and raise £2,000 for the association.
"After seeing the buzz my running mates got from training and competing in marathons I decided to have a go before I got too old," he said.
"Training is going well, and last week I ran my peak training distance of 22 miles.
"I have raised about £1,200 so far, my company, Cabot Plastics in Dukinfield, will add another £500 and Macclesfield plastics company WTP has pledged £250."
