CHILDREN can enjoy new entertainment equipment after members of a multi-agency partnership donated more than £1,000 for a youth centre to keep them off Winsford's streets.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service donated £1,200 from Vale Royal's performance delivery group fund which has gone towards buying a pool table, PlayStation and Wii games consoles to help keep youngsters entertained.

It has been a great success working together and providing Winsford with positive activities for young people on Friday and Saturday nights.

The aim is to reduce anti-social behaviour in the town by giving youngsters a place to meet and talk.

Youth Forum co-ordinator Maggie Anderson said: "It has been a great success working together and providing Winsford with positive activities for young people on Friday and Saturday nights. We're trying to create something for the young people in the town."

Matthew Hopkins, station commander at Winsford and Northwich Fire and Rescue Service, said: "It has been very positive and children who wouldn't normally go to a youth club have been attracted to it and if you get enough young people then the older ones will come as well. The youth club has excellent facilities and we're committed to helping local people because it's not just the fire and rescue side, the volunteers really need support."

There is a suggestion book for youngsters to say what activities they want to take part in and some of the ideas have included canoeing and kayaking.

Vale Royal Borough Council, the police and Weaver Valley Housing Trust have also contributed to the youth forum.

The centre, in Cheviot Square, was opened in March and is for youngsters aged 11-19. It costs 30p a time to attend.

This town and its council "vale royal" are a joke!...The donation from the fire service should go down well in the community, but all in all the money given to the youth centre is not enough!...i mean there are 1000,s of kids in Winsford and not enough things to do too occupy there minds. Our local council are only interested in making money.FULL STOP!...The only way outta this mess is for the council to put some of there "ill gotten gains" back in the community. There are 5 or 6 big estates in Winsford and there are lots of kids ranging from 4-16 and only 2 youth centres "grange" & "mountpleasent" and if all the kids in the town desided to go on these nights there wouldnt be enough room for them all....infact it would cause health & saftey issues! My idea would be for the council to strick up one of its shady deals with one of there many contractors to build 5 youth centres around the town. This wouldnt cost that much as they could do the same deal as they done on the back 9 holes of the council owned golf course which they bought back of building contractors for £1. Yes i said £1. The same sort of thing is happening now on the grange £60,000 for a park for children aged between 2-10. no thought has gone into this progect yet again,a waste of public money! Its about time the council put up and shut up and do something this "shithole council" has never ever done before and do something for the children of Winsford not just for the now but for our children to come. Stop thinking of yourselves and do something right and honest for once in your lives!
