A MAJOR building developer in Warrington has gone into liquidation.

Briden Construction Limited, the company behind developments such as Cantilever View, made the announcement on December 31 in the London Gazette.

Director Brian Foden, aged 47, of Stockport Road, Thelwall, said the company would be wound-up voluntarily because: "The company cannot, by reason of its liabilities, continue its business."

Dennis Rogers, aged 42, of Grappenhall Road, Stockton Heath, another director of Briden Construction, said: "There are meetings being held with the liquidators trying to sort everything out."

Mr Foden and Mr Rogers set up the company in July 1999.

Briden Construction, whose registered offices are at 10-14 Walton Road, Stockton Heath, has been a major developer in Warrington and had gained planning permission for major new home schemes such as Cantilever View.

In 2005, it had a 56-room hotel development on the former Thomas Locker site approved by Warrington Borough Council.

But a renewed application for a bigger capacity hotel was made last year by Briden Homes Limited, which also has Brian Foden and Dennis Rogers as joint directors.

Briden Construction Limited had previously been embroiled in a cash row with the council in 2006 when the company came under fire for taking 10 months to pay for road improvements, which were part of the conditions of approval for the plan.

Briden Construction Limited said at the time that the delay was an administrative error.

Vincent Simmons of Bennett Verby, in Stockport, has now been appointed the liquidator for the company.

A spokesman for Briden Construction said: "After taking professional advice we have had no alternative but to wind up the company as from December 2007.

"There were a number of legal disputes unsolved which are being dealt with by Bennett Verby LLP."
