A 59-YEAR-OLD has been named the best bus driver in the north west.
Bernie Reynolds, of Runcorn, scooped the Arriva X Factor title after customers voted him the number one driver in the region.
He said: "I was extremely flattered to receive the nominations that resulted in me getting put through to the final in the first place, but to be named as the overall winner for the north west is brilliant.
"I would like to thank everyone who took the trouble to vote. It really is appreciated and shows that our efforts do not go unnoticed."
Bernie, who received 32 per cent of the vote, picked up a trophy and cash prize. Passengers were asked to nominate their favourite drivers based on their customer service skills and ability to go that extra mile.
Bernie, who has worked for Arriva for 22 years, went head-to-head with Kath Molyneux, of Skelmersdale, and Steve Smart and Andy Latimer, both of Liverpool.
Nick Gordon, marketing manager of Arriva North West, said: "Congratulations to Bernie. He received a huge amount of the votes along with some extremely positive words of encouragement from the public.
"Our drivers are on the frontline when it comes to meeting the public. The X Factor competition provides the opportunity for our customers to show their recognition and thanks for the work these drivers do, and makes us immensely proud."
