MIDDLEWICH Folk and Boat Festival has been hailed as one of the top-ten festivals in the UK.

The most popular event on the town's calendar came in at number eight in The Guardian's list of the best folk festivals across the country.

Festival chairman Julie Bickerton is thrilled at the news. "It's wonderful to be chosen as one of the top festivals," she said.

"It's a great compliment to all the hard work put in over the year by our small, unpaid committee and all our stewards and other helpers.

"It makes it all worthwhile."

Anticipation is already brewing for this year's festival, running from June 13 to 15, with a stellar line-up set to appear.

Headline acts include June Tabor, Martin Simpson, Churchfitters and the ever-popular Mark Radcliffe and the Family Mahone.

Revellers are in for an extra treat this year with the inclusion of Cheshire's Floating Garden Festival.

Barges embellished with floral decorations will pass through the town as part of the Cheshire Year of Gardens celebration.

Full weekend tickets, allowing entry to all concerts, cost £70 and tickets for individual concerts are priced separately.
