MORE than 250 classic car owners will be showing off their pride and joy this weekend.

The cars will be on display at the three-day Smallwood Vintage Rally, which runs from Saturday to Monday.

The rally has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 2001, and is now regarded as one of the major rallies in the area.

It is being held once again on fields alongside the A50 Newcastle Road at Smallwood, and opens from 9.30am to 5pm each day.

A major attraction at the show is commercial vehicles, and more than 90 are due to take part in the 2008 celebrations.

For vintage vehicle enthusiasts the show offers something for everyone, from motorcycles, military vehicles and landrovers to tractors, steam engines and stationary engines.

For the youngsters there are horse and cart rides, fair organs, a craft tent and a model exhibition.

There are also arena displays, stalls, an autojumble and a car boot sale.

A new feature of the show is horticultural equipment, such as lawnmowers and small ploughs.

The section was introduced last year, and will feature at least 15 exhibitors this weekend.

"We have people coming from Scotland and down south, and the main aim of the rally is for everyone to enjoy themselves," said rally secretary Cheryl Braxton.

Admission is £5 for adults, £3 for pensioners, and £2.50 for children over 12.

Children under 12 are admitted free, and the prices have been held at last year's figures.

Car parking is available, and for more details ring Cheryl on 01782-773172 or 07799-306012.
