BIG-HEARTED gardeners helped the victims of the Burmese cyclone this week.

They supported a plant sale at Murdishaw Church and raised almost £100 for families left stranded by the typhoon.

Organiser, Owen Gwynne, said: "We're a small congregation but we wanted to help.

"We had a collecting bucket for customers who come to the church for their plants and lots of them donated their change.

"We've always found that Murdishaw people are very generous when they are asked."

They plan to have an extra collection next Sunday.

"We'll be sending our donations through Christian Aid because we know they work through partners in Burma which means they can start helping the victims straight away," added Mr Gwynne.
