A CUSTOMER sales advisor at IKEA's Gemini Retail Park superstore has started a training programme with the aim of one day becoming an officer in the British Army.

Tom Creek, aged 18, is a member of the new class of potential officers' being put through their paces at the Officer Training Wing of 42 Brigade.

If successful he will become an officer in the Territorial Army, serving the Army on a part-time basis.

The teen, from Great Sankey, already combines his work at IKEA with studies in public services and management at Warrington Collegiate.

He knows all about life in the Army as his father, George, served in the Royal Artillery for 23 years, including spells in Germany and Canada.

He said: "I grew up with the Army and this is something I really want to do. The Commanding Officer of Warrington's 75 Engineer Regiment came into our college to offer us the chance to join an Army look at life' weekend."
