JAMES Baird's driving ambition has earned him the Spirit of Ecstasy Trophy from Congleton Advanced Motorists.

The award is for the best performing of all the group's associates who took the advanced driving test in the last year.

John lives in Congleton, and the runner-up was John Hulse, who received the Mullock Shield.

The best performing driver on test was Alex Whitters, who received the George Parker Trophy.

The awards were presented at the Jodrell Bank radio telescope.

The group incorporates Macclesfield Advanced Motorists, and boasts a record membership of more than 180.

"There is no better way of reducing the tragic loss of life on our roads than raising the quality of driving," said group chairman John Twigg.

"These awards recognise the very high standards that can be reached by drivers who undertake our training programme.

"We hope their example will encourage other drivers and bikers to join us and gain the benefits of safer and cheaper motoring."
