THREE men arrested after a man was killed by officers from Greater Manchester Police on Saturday night have appeared in court.

David Totton, aged 33, of Rochdale Road, Manchester, Joseph Travers, aged 27, of no fixed address, and Robert Rimmer, aged 26, of Ainsbrook Avenue, Manchester were at Manchester Magistrates Court today.

Armed officers from GMP stood guard outside court, controlling who went in and out.

All three defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery between January 24 and March 3.

They spoke to confirm their names and addresses. No bail applications were made.

The next hearing will now take place at Manchester Crown Court on Monday, March 19.

Earlier today police named the man shot during the planned operation as 35-year-old Bolton resident Anthony Paul Grainger (pictured).
