WARRINGTON Borough Council has told staff who questioned it holding a jobs fair in the face of redundancies staff would be considered for any vacancies if they met requirements.
Some staff had raised concerns over the jobs fair organised for a variety of leisure based roles after the Warrington Guardian reported last week up to 190 jobs could go at the council in the next year.
Councillors had said they were hopefully to reduce the number of compulsory redundancies to none by working with staff and unions.
But some were surprised to see job vacancies come up for offer at the jobs fair.
Joe Blott, executive director for neighbourhood and community services, said: "In May, Orford Park will be opened to the public, providing a fantastic range of facilities and services under one roof.
“We need to recruit around 20 additional posts and held a jobs fair to give local people the chance to come along and find out more about the opportunities on offer - and there was a huge level of interest.
“Any council employee who is currently at risk of redundancy will be considered for any vacancies, if they meet the requirements for the role."

Of course anybody who knows they are jobless can be considered...they just turn up and put their name down but I would have thought that the council (under current redundancy regulations) have a legal requirement to consider the staff for any suitable role within the organisation.
