AN elderly woman's home has suffered extensive damage after an explosion on Cinnamon Lane, Fearnhead.

Firefighters were called at 7.10am this morning, Friday.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known but gas engineers are at the scene.

The homeowner, aged 92, is not thought to be seriously hurt and is being treated by paramedics for a minor injury to one of her hands.

She has now been taken to Warrington Hospital for treatment.

Four homes either side of the affected house were evacuated and road closures were in place along Cinnamon Lane, and adjoining roads.

The roads are due to reopen shortly.

Meanwhile staff from Warrington Borough Council are working with a structural engineer to assess the overall damage to the house.
