THREE teenagers are looking for help to fund the trip of a lifetime to an international youth conference in Chicago.
Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School pupils Holly Gardener and Lauren Yarwood, along with Eleanor Panting, from Birchwood High School, hope to join students from around the world at the HOBY World Leadership Congress in July.
The three 15-year-old girls want to make the trip after attending a HOBY UK youth leadership seminar, run by the Latchford high school last year.
HOBY UK sees children from across the country come together to work on building leadership skills and confidence.
Lauren said: “When I first heard of HOBY I didn’t really know what to expect but my time there changed my view on everything.
“I made new friends and it built my confidence so much. They showed me not to be afraid of what other people think and to just be myself around others.”
And following the chance to experience the event in Manchester last year the girls now want to take the next step and meet other like-minded people from around the world at the Chicago congress, which runs from July 21 to July 28.
Holly added: “I believe attending the HOBY world leader conference in Chicago will help me build further on the skills that I have learnt and give me new techniques and abilities in leading others and building their confidence and belief in themselves.”
But the chance comes at a cost and each youngster needs to raise £2,500 to fund the trip and have been enlisting the help of their families and friends to find the money.
If anyone would like to find out more about how to help the girls with their fundraising contact the school on 636414.
