AN absent father, compulsive liar and a cheat who was possessive, controlling and cruel.
That is how the ex-wife of rapist taxi driver Graham Williams described him after he was jailed for eight years.
She does not want to be named but has spoken out in ‘disgust’ over his attack on a woman with learning disabilities.
“I knew he was bad but what he’s done is just disgusting,” she said.
“It hasn’t all sunk in yet. I just feel sorry for the girl. She will have to live with this her whole life and he’s the sort of person who won’t even think about it.”
The 38-year-old met Williams in Warrington in August 1995 and they married a year later.
She says that after the wedding he ‘completely changed’.
He would not allow her out on her own, stopped her from seeing family and lied regularly.
She said: “There was no physical abuse, but he would mentally abuse me, just twist things.
“He is a completely different person behind closed doors.”
And on June 7, 1997, the birth of their daughter, things got worse.
Williams’ wife was rushed to Hope Hospital in Manchester for an emergency caeserian.
The taxi driver was working and said he could not go to hospital until he had finished with his current fare.
“He didn’t want to lift her, hold her or care for her – he just wasn’t interested,” said his ex-wife.
When the family arrived home he would turn off the heating, only make himself food and watch as his wife struggled upstairs with a pram.
Two weeks after the birth, and following Williams’ admission he had been having an affair since the day of their wedding, she left him.
He has not seen his daughter since and only began paying maintainance a few months ago, she claims.
In court last week the defendant admitted to a past interest in swinging.
During his failed marriage he would often be out from 4pm to 9am the next morning.
“You just think, was he doing those kind of things when he was with me,” said the mum-of-one.
“Everything they said is just typical of the lowlife scum he is.”
