HUNDREDS of beanie hats knitted and collected in Cheshire are heading across the world.

The Royal British Legion, based in Warrington, has organised a unique charity event, encouraging people to knit the hats to be sent to Afghanistan. They will help soldiers who have to endure temperatures as low as minus 30.

Julie Dove, from the legion, said: “The soldiers who have received them so far have been very touched that they have such public support. Some of the knitters have pinned on notes of support.”

The Black Sheep Craft Barn in Culcheth was among the shops in the county to help out.
