A 14-year-old boy had his jaw broken during an attack on Whitbarrow Road on Friday.
The teenager was walking with a friend at 7pm and when they reached the junction with the Trans Pennine trail they were approached by a woman and two men.
One of the men, wearing a balaclava, then punched the victim in the face.
DC Rob Horton called the incident a ‘nasty assault’.
Anyone with information can call police on 101.
