THE search is on to trace the missing members of a popular 1960s rock group from Warrington.

The Vigilantes, known affectionately as The Vigis, regularly played Baths Hall, the Co-op Hall, Parr Hall and Bell Hall.

They also performed in the celebrated Cavern Club, in Liverpool, in 1964 and took part in the Lancashire and Cheshire Rock Contest at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in 1963.

Following the Mods and Rockers exhibition held at Warrington Museum last November, four of the original group members were reunited after 40 years.

They included rhythm guitarist Ray Johnson, lead guitarist Ian Preece, who was replaced by Pete Garner in 1964, and bass player Jeff Rigby.

They are now very keen to contact the members they have lost touch with.

They are drummers Don Smith and Bill Monks and singers Johnny Moss and Colin Massey.

Jeff, aged 66, of Mapplewell Crescent, Great Sankey, said: “The reunion was very good and we’ll definitely stay in contact. We’re trying to plan another meeting and hopefully we’ll all be there for that.

“I really miss the others and would love to see them. We had a lot of fun times together as a band.”

The eight-piece used to perform songs by a variety of artists, including The Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry and The Beatles.

If anyone has any information about Don, Bill, Johnny or Colin, e-mail info@thevigilantes.co.uk.

The band would also like to get in contact with anyone who remembers them playing in Warrington.
