TWO youngsters have achieved every writer’s dream after seeing their work published.
Penketh South Community Primary School pupils Ellie Sutton, aged 11, and Ellie Cullen, aged 10, were thrilled when their stories were picked out in this year’s Young Writers Competition.
The prize included their short stories appearing in the Cheshire edition of the Tiny Treasures story collection.
Debbie Cullen, Ellie’s mum, said: “We received a letter saying her story was going to be printed and then had to wait for the book to come out.
“We have bought lots of copies for Ellie’s nan and the school.
“Ellie always has her head stuck in a book and likes the Harry Potter stories.”
Ellie, from Roeburn Way, Penketh, said her tale, Marvin the Moonwalker and was about an astronaut meeting an alien on the moon.
She said: “I was screaming when I found out about the book and all my friends were pretending to be my personal assistant!”
There were 20,000 entries from across the UK. Judges praised their imagination, perception, expression and creative use of language.
A copy of the anthology will also kept at the British Library.
The contest was founded by poet Ian Walton who wanted to give every child the opportunity to see their work in print and is open to schools across the UK.
