WORK to create new kerbed entrances on a country lane in Lymm was ‘desecration’ according to a councillor.

The new entrances to the fields off Booths Lane in the village, which were created last month, have caused worry among residents in the area.

They say the work has damaged the rural character of the area. And now council bosses have agreed a deal with the landowner to have the original grass verges restored.

Clr Sheila Woodyatt (CON – Lymm) said there were concerns over the land: “This is nothing short of desecration. It is appalling, this is a country lane and the grass verges have been destroyed,” she said.

While no planning permission is needed from the council to carry the work out, permission is needed from the highways department.

Clr Woodyatt said: “We have been holding meetings since the new entrances took place. We have been told the entrances are to allow agricultural use.”

Discussions have been under way since the work took place and now an agreement is in place that no more will be built.

The landowner has also been told planning permission is needed for one of the entrances on Cherry Lane.

The verges will have to be replaced to their former glory while a hedge has already been replanted.

What do you think about the kerbed entrances?
