Police happy with Creamfields op

POLICE say they are ‘extremely pleased’ with the policing operation at this year’s Creamfields festival after there were no reports of serious incidents over the two-day event.

Thirty-two arrests were made with the majority being drug-related while 122 people received cautions for possession of drugs, public order offences and one for theft.

Nicola Linder, who was part of this year’s police planning team, said: “We are pleased with the results, especially given the fact that there were an extra 10,000 people attending this year and the fact the weather improved substantially on the Sunday meaning the majority of people chose to camp out for a second night rather than head home.”

Plans were put in place to deal with everything from security to traffic months ahead with police working closely with the organisers, councils and residents.

Searches were a condition of entry and festivalgoers were asked to place any drugs or weapons in amnesty bins provided at the entrance to the arena.

There were 18 thefts from tents, 26 other incidents of theft, six reports of assault and four reports of robbery.
