A WARRINGTON man was thrilled when he stumbled across a collection of Second World War photographs and a military badge among bags of jumble that were destined for a car boot sale.
Paul Reed, aged 44, found the eight black and white pictures and the silver pin, which bears a crest and the initials ARP, in a cigar tin after he spent £30 buying goods for the sale from a volunteer with the Cats Protection League.
The images, dated 1937 to 1942, show Army buildings and fighter planes and on the back of one the word Rhineland, the part of Germany along the river Rhine and the Dutch border, has been pencilled in.
Mr Reed, a heavy goods driver who lives on Laira Street, said: “I think these were taken by a soldier but I would like to find out more about them as they may be of historical importance.
“I was excited to find the pictures and the badge as I’m very interested in wartime history.”
The find coincides with the 70th anniversary celebrations for the Battle of Britain, the name given to the air campaign waged by the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) against the United Kingdom during the summer and autumn of 1940.
