A CHURCH is rising from the ashes following a devastating fire before Christmas.
The inside of St Andrew’s Church in Orford was heavily damaged in the blaze in December but for the past few weeks refurbishment work has been under way.
J Lambert (NW) Ltd has rebuilt the choir vestries, redecorated the church and cleaned the organ.
And on Friday, the cleaned and re-gilded cross was erected above the altar.
The vicar, Fr Michael Raynor, said: “You wouldn’t believe the difference. St Andrew’s is being restored to its former glory.”
Work is scheduled to finish in late August and plans are under way for a service of dedication and thanksgiving on Tuesday, September 14.
The church will also be open for viewing at harvest on September 25 and 26.
