MICHAEL Sullivan is looking forward to the chance to revert to his favoured position in the half backs when he joins Wolves next season.

The 25-year-old Australian has mainly been used as a hooker coming off the bench at current club Cronulla Sharks in the NRL, with Kangaroo Brett Kimmorley taking up the scrum half position, and he is relishing the chance to shine in the halves in Super League.

"The impression I'm getting is that I'm going to be playing at the scrum base," said Sullivan, speaking from Australia by telephone.

"I played all my junior football as a half back, and it's only because Brett Kimmorley is at the club that I'm not playing half back at Cronulla.

"I'm playing hooker and don't get the full game, and I thought it was a good opportunity to go to England and be a big part of things at half back.

"I've had a few years coming off the bench and they've decided that works best so they don't really change it, but I want to prove myself as a full-time player."

Sullivan, who crossed paths with Danny Lima at Northern Eagles before joining Cronulla in 2001, will replace Nathan Wood in 2006 and is hoping to emulate his fellow countryman's success in England.

He said: "I know he has made a name for himself there, and I'd like to think I could make as big an impact, if not more.

"I like to play off the cuff - I'm an attacking-based player and I think the style in England will suit me.

"But I'm looking at it on a team basis, because if I'm playing well hopefully the team's playing well, and that reflects on the success of my individual game."

The 5ft 7in New South Welshman has signed a two-year deal with Wolves, who have an option to extend the contract by a further 12 months, and he says is excited at the prospect of coming to Warrington.

"I'm really looking forward to it," he said. "I've had a chat with Paul Cullen, and I've just started watching the DVDs he has sent over for me to have a look at their style and the sort of play to expect.

"I had a chat to Nigel Vagana and Danny Nutley, who play with me at Cronulla and have both played for Warrington, and they spoke in glowing terms about the club, and said they look after their players and I should enjoy myself.

"Apparently there was interest in me from some other English clubs, but I wanted to go to a strong club that were already on the way up."

Sullivan, who has been released from the last two years of his contract at Cronulla, sparked a media storm in Australia last month when he revealed that he was battling a gambling addiction, but he is convinced that will not be an issue when he arrives in December.

"I'm very confident it will behind me by then," he said. "Ever since the news broke here I haven't even looked like going near any gambling facilities.

"I had it curbed when the news came out and it will definitely be curbed by then, and I think moving to England could help the situation."

And Sullivan, who is eager to take the opportunity to travel during his time with Wolves, hopes his form will earn him another deal in England.

He said: "I'd like to be known as one of the better half backs over there and someone who's made a difference to the side.

"Whether it's in Australia or England, I should have two, three or four years after the end of that contract, and I can weigh it up then.

"But if I enjoy my time there, staying in England and finishing my career there is definitely in the back of my mind."
