IN reply to your recent article 'Are privately run security firms set to patrol our streets?'

I find the comment that there is little for the children to do in Culcheth a bit of a cop out.

I have three children and have lived here virtually all my life.

The council paid thousands getting a skateboard park built, in less than a week children had wrecked it, foul grafitti was everywhere and it had been burned.

I took my children over there one day and was made to feel very uncomfortable by the youths that were there.

Many activities are held in the village, they have football, rugby, karate, fitness activities at our local sports club, also there are proposals to have a leisure centre built although this is in the early stages.

The bottom line is that the parents of these children need to take responsibility, and take an interest in what their children are up to.

I understand that children get bored, but does that mean it is all right for them to wreck public and private property? .

Boredom is not an excuse to damage whatever they like. Bringing children up is hard work but, as parents, it's up to us to make sure they know right from wrong and that they do have some interests which they can develop so that they are not hanging around on street corners every night.

There are thousands of children who live in Culcheth who cause no problems at all.

They do not go round causing trouble, so are we to blame boredom as an excuse?

We live in a small village and it's about time that that the parents involved with these children took a little interest in what and where their kids are at night.

I would just like to say that it is a small amount of youths that are causing chaos for the residents in the area so we need to put it in perspective.

However, we as parents need to bring our children up to respect people and property.

I believe these people involved have little respect for themselves to start with.

So come on parents, take an interest in your kids and what they are doing!
