ALLEYWAYS in Fairfield and Howley are being upgraded as part of a rolling programme of works.

The work, which commenced in June, will replace existing gullies, adjust ironwork, replace kerbs and channels and resurface with asphalt.

This will renew and improve alleyways to the rear of mainly terraced properties in the ward and include alleyways at Scott Street, Chorley Street, St Peter's Way, Marsh Street and Marsh House Lane.

Fairfield and Howley ward councillor Yvonne Fovargue welcomed the upgrading of several alleyways in her ward.

She said: "These works are very important as they often upgrade highways that have been untouched for many decades.

"These improvements are another step along the way to renewing all alleyways in the ward and will join the growing list of properties which have benefited from this investment."
