GRANGE missed the chance to go top of Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division Two on Saturday when they suffered a shock home defeat to struggling Langley.

Ian Brown hit 35 on his debut as Grange made 202 for 7 in their innings, but although the same player then took 2 for 53, Langley secured a five-wicket win to keep Grange in third.

The second team had a better result as they strengthened their position at the top of Division B West with a three-wicket win at Wirral.

Evans took 4 for 30 and Matt Wilcock grabbed 3 for 38 as the home side were dismissed for 143, before 72 from wicketkeeper Mike Dudley saw Grange home after they had been in trouble at 40 for 4.

The first team, who are into the semi finals of the Cheshire Alliance Cup after Saughall forfeited their match on Sunday, travel to Trinity this Saturday, while the Sunday XI host Newburgh after securing a walkover win against Hindley St Peters at the weekend.
